You see them everywhere!

Essential oils are very popular these days.  But do you really know what they are and how to use them?  Here is a simple easy-to-read-and-understand guide to Essential Oil Basics.  I love answering questions about the oils, so start tuning in Wednesday afternoons on Facebook at 4 pm to hear Coast to Coast with Nicole and Andrea on Essential Oils for your Healthy Lifestyle.

I started using essential oils four years ago when I want to wean myself off the over-the-counter prescriptions for daily aches and pains, including headaches, digestive issues, and allergies.  doTERRA essential oils now fill up my medicine cabinet, in part, because they have no side effects if used correctly. Further, they are, in most cases, just as effective as the drug store concoctions that created a burden on my liver and kidneys. And they are so concentrated that a little goes a long way, so they make economic sense too.

How Do Oils Work?

Oils work by affecting your olfactory system (your frontal part of the brain) connected to your sense of smell.  They also can penetrate other cells when placed on the skin. Some oils can also be used internally. They have a label that says GRAS on it.  General Recognized as Safe for consumption.  The food industry uses derived oils for flavoring.

What are Oils Good For?

Oils have been used for thousands of years for medicinal and health purposes.  They can support both your physical and mental health.  Through diffusing the oil, the smell creates a mood that can calm you when you are upset or energize you when you feel down. That is because our sense of smell is so connected to our brain and feelings. Some oils have been shown to lower your cortisol levels which can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Different oils also have natural occurring chemicals that are anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal properties, which can boost your immune system and fight infections.

Essential Oils Can Help Eliminate Toxic Chemicals from Your Life

Essential Oils have replaced all my household cleaners to make my home safer for my family and my pets.  Unlike traditional cleaning products, they don’t contain Phthalates, Parabens, fragrances, chlorine, and ammonia.  This week on Facebook Live Coast to Coast with Nicole and Andrea, (Wednesday 4 pm) we will look at how to clean without all these toxic chemicals that build up in your body and over time, wreak havoc.

Essential Oil Safety Tips and Tricks

Don’t just buy oil from a store shelf without knowing the source of the oil and how old the oil is.

Oils can go rancid. Since the oils are derived from plants, if the soils are unclean, they can be affected. Buy through one of the larger more reputable companies.  I am a doTERRA rep. You can contact me through my website.

All oils (unless in an emergency) should be diluted with a carrier oil when placed on the skin or put in a recipe.  In other words, place the oil in a base oil like coconut, jojoba or olive oil before rubbing on the skin.  Mix in an oil, honey or other viscous liquid for consumption or place in an empty vegetable pill capsule with oil in it.

Oils are great for diffusing.  There are all types of diffusers out there.  Use distilled water when diffusing oils unless you have a non-water diffuser.  You can also sniff the oils directly from the bottle.

This month doTERRA has an amazing deal for Green Cleaning.  It is one step on your way to living your most vibrant life.
